It’s become a tradition for any actor, artist, or renowned figure who views the Declaration of Independence exhibit at the National Archives to sign a copy of the historic document…and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were given that opportunity, too! The National Archives Foundation was only too happy to have the biggest-selling musical artist in history put his own “John Hancock” on a copy of the Declaration. And he was happy to do so when asked!

While in Washington, DC for events with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the National Archives Foundation, Garth and Trisha were given a special opportunity to personally view this treasured document, kept safe for past and future generations inside the National Archives facilities.

That’s what Garth Brooks did at a special event celebrating American music, taking the stage in support of the National Archives Foundation’s efforts to foster a greater understanding of America’s heritage as the nation marks 250 years of existence and independence this year.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) presented Garth Brooks with the first-ever Artist of a Lifetime Award at the RIAA Honors event in Washington, D.C. this week, recognizing him as the #1-selling album artist in history, with more than 200 million certified album sales.
